The apple variety “威海金(Venus Golden)”received champions of Weihai Apple Challenge Competition in year 2014、2015、2016、2017、2018 and 2019. In recent years, it has been regarded as a popular premium fruit gift by consumers. The price is between 30-40 CNY per kilo.
威海金（Venus Golden）was selected in Japan from several generations of breeding with Golden Delicious. The Fruit & Tea Station of Weihai introduced this variety into China in January 2011 with the help of Janpense fruit expert Mr “熊谷俊一”. It was once named“维纳斯黄金”which was taken over later. Therefore, the Fruit & Tea Station of Weihai changed the name into“威海金”。
威海金（Venus Golden）has bright fruits, high-pile fruit shape, yellow peels, rich juices and extremely high content of soluble solids (generally above15.3%, maximum 21.7%). It is particularly fragrant, sweet and crispy. The tree is a little stronger with good germination/branching capacity, good secondary branch germination capacity and big natural opening angle of secondary branches. The variety is easy to get flowers, good early fruiting and high yield. The ripening date is between the end of October and the beginning of November. The taste and the flavor will be even better with a delayed harvest. If the orchard built with dwarf self-rooted trees with branches and in good management, it will get fruits in the first year. The yield of the second year will reach 500-800Kg. The full bearing period will begin in the fourth or fifth year and the yield will be more than 4 000Kg. |
